One Health is a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to achieving the goal of optimal health outcomes by recognizing the interconnectedness of humans, animals and the environment. One Health challenges reflect critical global policy goals, including many of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Practical application and operationalization of the framework has proved challenging with common difficulties including poor information sharing, imbalanced participation and inequitable funding arrangements. The recent pandemic highlights the urgent need for effective cross-disciplinary coordination and collaboration to enable disease preparedness and response.
